Facebook Groups

For those of you on Facebook,  here is the link to all the different Plant related groups, there are more than just Bromeliad and Xeric Bromeliad (and one for almost every genus ), but also every other plant type, animal, hobby, etc. If it isn’t mentioned, start one of your own, or be patient, it’ll happen….so anything you are into including or other than Bromeliads, you should be able to find.  I’ve found that some are more active  (like the Bromeliad groups) than others, but all are great.  People from all over the world, exchanging ideas, pics, even plants. I’ve found that there are no beginners on these groups, if there are, they are lurking and learning.  You will find that the Bromeliad groups include such members as well known bromeliad collectors, growers and hybridizers, as well as the hobbyists.   No selling though, there is a separate page for that.  I think it might be listed as well, or at least mentioned. I’ve found these pages to be quite reliable, with correcting names, if incorrect, giving history and parentage to plants, etc.  At least I’ve found this with the Bromeliad, Aroid, Fern and Succulent groups.

I’ve been told that my link is outdated, that there have been a few more added since, but this will get you started with more than you might want.  If you don’t want to get email notification to every post, then you can shut that feature off on your own page on Settings (where you set privacy settings, etc).  If you are like me and don’t go on FB on a daily basis, but would like to know when someone has posted to your page, or to a page that you are following, then keep the email notices.  I’ve found them to be helpful.  Just my preference.  Anyway…here is the link…

Also, there are a lot of Bromeliad societies that have pages, as well as many other plant societies here in Houston.   I know of the Bromeliad Society International,  Gulf Coast Fern Society, Houston Cactus & Succulent Society, Houston Orchid Society, etc.  I for one, would like to invite those of you who aren’t already on the FB group: Bromeliad Society Houston, to join us.  It is a closed group, meaning that one has to ask to join, this is to keep spammers out, preserve some of our privacy, etc.  This is not an “official” page, it is a mutual interest group, (to promote our society events, growing bromeliads, share info, ideas, ask questions, etc.)  as are all Facebook groups.  One does not have to be a member to join, just enjoy growing bromeliads.  All of these can be found by typing the name into the search box of your Facebook page.

Those of you active on FB, if you can think of anything I missed, please let us know.  I’d appreciate it.
